Code of Ethics

Effective Date: September 17, 2025

1. Preamble

Metro Link is committed to serving the public interest by providing accurate, fair, and independent journalism. Our primary mission is to inform our community with integrity and to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct. This Code of Ethics serves as a guide for all our journalists, editors, contributors, and staff. Trust is the cornerstone of our relationship with our readers, and this code outlines our commitment to earning and maintaining that trust.

2. Accuracy and Fairness

A commitment to the truth is the foundation of our work.

Verification: We are dedicated to verifying all information before publication. We will use multiple sources whenever possible to ensure the reliability of our reporting.

Context and Clarity: We will present news in a clear and complete context, avoiding misrepresentation or oversimplification. We will clearly distinguish between factual reporting, analysis, and opinion.

Corrections: If we make a mistake, we will acknowledge it and correct it promptly, clearly, and transparently. We will publish a correction notice explaining the error and the change made.

Right of Reply: We are committed to fairness. We will make a sincere effort to contact the subjects of our news reports to allow them to respond to any allegations or significant claims made about them.

3. Independence and Impartiality

Our journalism must be free from any obligation other than the public's right to know.

Conflicts of Interest: Our journalists must avoid any conflict of interest, real or perceived. This includes financial, personal, political, or other connections that could compromise their ability to report fairly. Any unavoidable conflict must be disclosed to an editor and, when relevant, to our audience.

External Influence: We do not accept gifts, favors, free travel, or special treatment that could compromise our journalistic integrity. Our news decisions are made independently and are not influenced by advertisers, sources, politicians, or any other external pressures.

Advertising and Sponsored Content: We maintain a clear separation between editorial content and advertising. Any sponsored content or advertising will be clearly and unambiguously labeled as such to avoid confusing our readers.

4. Integrity and Public Interest

We act with personal and professional integrity in our duty to serve the public.

Plagiarism and Fabrication: Plagiarism and the fabrication of information are unacceptable. We will always attribute information to its source.

Sources: We will identify our sources whenever possible, as transparency is key to credibility. We will grant anonymity to a source only when they may face danger or retribution for providing information that is of significant public interest, and only with the approval of an editor.

Deception: Our journalists will identify themselves as representatives of Metro Link and will be transparent about their purpose when gathering news. We will not use misrepresentation to obtain information, except in rare circumstances where it is vital to the public interest and all other means of gathering the information have been exhausted.

5. Compassion and Respect for Privacy

We recognize that our reporting can have a profound impact on people’s lives.

Sensitivity: We will treat subjects, sources, and the public with respect and compassion. We will be particularly sensitive when dealing with vulnerable individuals, children, and victims of tragedy or crime.

Privacy: We will balance the public's right to know with an individual’s right to privacy. An intrusion into a person’s privacy must be justified by a clear and overriding public interest.

Public Figures: While public officials and figures are subject to a higher degree of scrutiny, we will still treat them with fairness.

6. Accountability and Transparency

We are accountable to our readers and to the people we cover.

Openness: We are committed to being transparent about our news-gathering processes and our journalistic standards.

Responsiveness: We will provide clear and accessible contact information for our readers. We will listen to their concerns and respond to queries about our reporting and our ethical standards.

7. Upholding the Code

All members of the Metro Link team are expected to read, understand, and uphold this Code of Ethics. A breach of these principles may result in disciplinary action. This code will be reviewed periodically to ensure it meets the evolving challenges of modern journalism.
